| RRAHC Begins Work on Bicentennial Herons in the Hall The River Region Arts & Humanities Council is gearing up for another fabulous Art Beaucoup! grant fundraiser. This year it is planning a Bicentennial Celebration, Herons in the Hall, to help celebrate the two- hundredth anniversaries of St. Charles, St. James, and St. John the Baptist Parishes. The event will be held at San Francisco Plantation on Saturday, June 2 from 7-10 P.M. RRAHC will be hosting a Judged Art Show on that evening. Judging the Art Show is renowned creator of the Blue Dog, Louisiana artist George Rodrigue. Taking from the idea of the painted fish in New Orleans, it is doing its own version using a River Parish resident, the blue Heron. Lowe’s on Jefferson Highway in New Orleans and River Marine are underwriting the polyresin herons that will be painted by River Parish Notables and area artists. After the event, the limited edition creations will be permanently displayed in the River Parishes in homes, offices, and businesses. All funds raised will be used for RRAHC grant funding. Since 2001, the group has supported events throughout the area with over 300 grants, which include photography and art exhibits, touring theatrical companies, original musical and stage productions, writing and art seminars, and a heritage education festival. Thousands of individuals participated in and have benefited from these events For tickets or for more information on the judged art show, call me, Sandra Chaisson, at 985-764-9596 or email sschaisson@aol.com. |
