Guest Demonstrator – Joyce Laporte

Joyce is one of our very own active JAG members. She is very talented and has won many
awards for her work. Read a little about her below and join us on Wednesday to be inspired
by her beautiful work.

Drawing and painting had always been a hobby for Joyce, but in 2002 she retired from the
corporate world and went full time with her art.  Basically self taught, she has had formal
training with David Rossbach, The Academy of Fine Arts and a myriad of workshops with
artists like: Auseklis Ozols, Taylor Ikin, Frank Federico, Doug Walton, Arleta Pech, but her
greatest influence came from watching Helen Van Wyk on public television, and reading all
of her books.  Much to Joyce's dismay, Helen passed away before she could take a
workshop with her.

Joyce enjoys working with all mediums, but her first love is oil.   Her paintings are realistic
in style, with a hint of mysticism.  Her landscapes are easily recognized by their misty,
mystical backgrounds, and she strives to convey feelings of warmth, peace and serenity in
all of her work, but her signature is the seasonal, delicious “Creole Tomato”.     Her work has
garnered numerous awards and has sold throughout the U.S., Europe, Australia and Cuba
and is also among private and corporate collections. In 2008 she became a member of The
Oil Painters of America.  She is also active in the local art guilds and has shown her work in
Galerie Severn, Galerie Eclat, and River Regions Fine Art Gallery in Sorrento, La.

Her studio is located at 5100 Jeannette Drive, Metairie, LA. 70003, here she continues to
paint, and teach.  She has also taught with Jefferson Parish, but prefers one on one teaching
in her studio.  Her strong faith is at the heart of her artwork. Joyce feels that she can't thank
God enough for all of the beauty and splendor that surrounds us and she strives to capture it
on canvas and share it with others.

NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Our plein air paint out this month was a beautiful balmy day.  Perfect for a paint out and we
wish we had had more people take part.  There are so many things to paint at City Park that I
think it's a great place for us to paint.  We will never run out of scenery, but we will move it
around and hopefully the weather will cooperate.

We have juried the Barnes and Noble show and it is also judged.  I'm pleased to say, none of
the pieces were juried out and we want to thank everyone who has participated.  Annie says
it will be a wonderful show and she was real pleased with the show overall.  She knows it
will look great at Barnes and Noble.

Don't forget cookies and coffee will be served Friday night at 6pm.  We will also be giving
out the ribbons and awards at that time.  Please send all your friends and family this
weekend to Barnes and Noble to do their Christmas shopping and a great place to buy books.
